2024 Municipal Election

The next General Municipal Election* for the City of West Sacramento will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Three (3) offices are up for election: Mayor, Councilmember (District 1), and Councilmember (District 2)

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates interested in running for West Sacramento public office must meet the following requirements established by the State of California Elections and Government Codes:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age on Election Day.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must be a registered voter.
  • Elective Office residency and registration requirement:
    • For the Office of Mayor - Must be a resident and registered voter of the City of West Sacramento.
    • For the Office of Council Member - Must be a resident and registered voter in the council district for which they will be elected at the time nomination papers are issued and throughout the term of office. Office to be filled are in Council District 1 and Council District 2. (District Lookup)

Nomination Period

The Election Nomination Period is July 15, 2024 through August 9, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. PST. 

Candidates must obtain a Nomination Packet by scheduling an appointment with the City Clerk. The packet includes the forms that must be completed and filed before the end of the Nomination Period.

Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) Campaign Filing Obligations

  • Candidates must file a Candidate Intention Statement (Form 501) before raising or spending any money, including the candidate's personal funds.
  • A primarily formed committee must file a Statement of Organization (Form 410) within 10 days of raising or spending $2,000 in a calendar year.

 

Commencing 90 days prior to a City election, a primarily formed committee must file a 24-Hour/10-day Contribution Report (Form 497) for any contribution that totals in the aggregate $1,000 or more made to or received by a candidate or committee.
